Description: In English IV: For English Language Learners, students increase and refine communication skills while focusing on their objectives identified in the TEKS.They concentrate on six traits (ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions) to practice all types of writing, and read extensively in multiple genres from British literature, including sections from the Anglo-Saxon, medieval, Renaissance, 17th century, 18th century,romantic, modern, and post-modern periods. Students also read from other world literature and spend time interpreting the historical context contained in each literary work. Within this course, students also learn about various literary forms and terms, build their vocabulary, participate in research activities, and refine their grammar skills. This course incorporates techniques for speakers of other languages and is taught with English as a Second Language methodology.
