GENERAL ATHLETIC INFORMATION
PHYSICALS: Every student who takes an athletic period MUST have a physical in order to try out before the season begins.  Physicals may be done by a private physician.  Students must use the CCISD Physical Form that can be obtained from the high school during the summer.  Physicians from our community provide an opportunity for athletes to have a physical on the high school campus in August.  Call the high school during the summer for specific dates and times.

ATHLETIC INFORMATION: Most freshman coaches provide literature on their sport which contains summer camp information.  This literature is give to the intermediate school PE departments for distribution.  It is also available in the summer at the main high school office.

OPEN GYM: During the summer, boys and girls have access to gym facilities.  Dates and times of open gym are available by contacting the high school during the summer or by reading the information provided by the athletic department or community newspapers.

ATHLETICS ARE NOT A "LEAN HOW TO PLAY" CLASS: All athletic classes prepare students for NCAA competition.  Therefore, students must have a competitive nature and already have a working knowledge of the sport(s).  These classes are NOT intramural and a student should not register for a class to learn how to play the sport.

FOOTBALL COMBINATION PLAYERS: As stated in CCISD High School Athletic Guidelines for Football Combination Players (Department Handbook 1999/2000, pages 29-30), the following shall apply:

Football / Basketball combination players who make the team, go to basketball full time upon completion of football season.  All players go back to Football off season at the conclusion of the basketball season.  Football / Baseball combination players or Football / Track combination players or Football / Soccer combination players all remain in Football off season at the completion of football season until the end of the first semester.  Sub varsity Baseball, Track, and Soccer players report to off season Football during the athletic period and to Baseball / Track / Soccer prepared after school hours.  There will be not exception to this unless personally approved by the Principal, or worked out between the coaches of each sport.

ATHLETES PLAYING MORE THAN ONE SPORT: Athletes who play more than one sport during the year will have their schedule adjusted by the Counseling Center.  Athletes will register for the sport which is in season first, then will switch to their next sport once the first season ends.  Coaches and COunselors worked hand in hand to get the student's schedule prepared.  Whenever possible, the academic teachers are kept even if the course is taught a different period of the day.  Sometimes this is not possible and a student will change teachers during a semester.

DROPPING ATHLETICS: A student may not drop athletics without first talking with the coach.  The coach is the only person authorized to have a student's schedule changed from athletics.  If a student is removed from athletics, physical education will replace the athletic class.

ATHLETIC CREDIT: The State of Texas allows two (2) credits of athletics or physical education to count toward graduation.  Once a student has earned two credits in athletics, the remaining credits become local credit and do not count toward any degree plan.

NCAA - COLLEGE SPORTS: If you plan on playing at the NCAA Division I or II Level, make sure you qualify academically so that you can participate athletically. You must graduate from high school with at least a 2.0 grade point average (based on a 4.0 scale) in 13 core academic courses.
